May the 4th Be With You

It’s May 4th, 2016, otherwise known as Star Wars Day! It’s also a Wednesday, which means it’s hump day, so if you’ve reached the point of the week where you haven’t worked out yet, don’t feel like getting another workout in (*cough*cough*raises hand*), or have maybe dropped the ball in eating well, know that it’s not too late to change that!

After all, Wednesday is the mid-point. It’s where we push ourselves to continue with eating well and working out, AND it’s where we change how the week has been by getting back on track. So whether you need that extra nudge of the Force to keep going or to re-set the week, there’s no better day for that than Wednesday, especially when it falls on Star Wars Day.

If you need a little extrinsic motivation to use that Force, here’s Daisy Ridley using it to train. Notice that her trainer gives her pointers to correct her movements and her comment that she has to be distracted to get through her workouts. It’s not perfect, it’s not easy, but she gets through it!

So whether your light saber would be red or blue, may the Force be with you.

Maz Kanata’s Egg Muffin Recipe

If you follow Fandom Fitness on Instagram, then you’ll know that I’ve been talking about making a recipe inspired by the snack that Rey is seen eating at Maz’s tavern in Star Wars The Force Awakens. After a few times of “pause” “rewind” “pause again” with the movie, I figured out that Rey is actually seen eating two separate things. The first shot has her eating half of a kiwano melon (otherwise known as the horned melon, African horned cucumber, and blowfish fruit) and the second, which is seen in the image below, looks like an apple with romanesco and blackberries (I assume that the apple is hollowed out to hold the fruit).

Running + Disney = runDisney

I’m not a runner. I get bored easily while running, so unless I’m constantly updating my playlist or route… I’ll just do a HIIT workout instead. I’d like to be a person who runs 6+ miles like it’s nothing, but I have trouble hitting four miles before I just… stop. I mean, I can run a 5k, which is cool, right?

Anyway, I’ve been looking into different ways to motivate myself to push past that 5k/3.1 mile mark on my runs. New music, a new outfit, and new shoes are all great motivators, but after 3.5 miles my brain doesn’t care about them. “A 5k at this pace is healthy. You don’t have to be a runner. You don’t have to be able to run beyond a 5k,” my brain says.

And I listen.

Monday Motivation: The Force Awakens’ John Boyega

Maybe one day I’ll do a Motivation Monday that doesn’t involve following someone on Instagram, but that is not this day. I re-gramed a video from John Boyega’s Instagram where he’s jump roping like a champ as we hear Oscar Isaac cheering him on in the background. It’s pretty great.

  • john_boyega @mrcalliet influenced my cardio routine today. Sharp! Of course doesn’t hurt that I have Oscar Isaac in the background cheering me on.
