Fandom Fitness is a blog and dedicated to making fitness accessible and effective by using our own passion for our fandoms to fuel physical activity and a healthy lifestyle.
The idea for the site came while taking notes during a lecture in an Exercise Assessment & Periodization class. Much of what can be achieved physically is tied to the mentality about a goal (be it a competitive event or weight lose goals), so visualization plays a key role in aligning the brain and body. “Visualize crossing the finish line” is a great way to get through a run, but what if I’m not motivated by that visual? What if I’m more motivated by visualizing myself running with Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli across Middle Earth? Or if my extra wave of energy comes from thinking about fighting with the Avengers on the streets of New York City? If this technique of pairing visualization with my own fandoms works so well for me, why not share the technique with my nerdy community? And why not extend the technique to breaking down exercises, body movement, and recipes to further the success of our health and fitness goals?
Kaela is an ACSM certified personal trainer working in the Bay Area of San Francisco, CA. Her education includes a certificate in Fitness, Nutrition, and Health from the Santa Rosa Junior College in Santa Rosa, CA and a B.S. in Business Administration from San Francisco State University.
Her own fandoms include: Star Wars, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Marvel Comics and playing as a high elven ranger (with her trusty falcon Millennium) in Dungeons and Dragons.
